Obama Sets Partisanship Record

Lame duck the most divisive, polarizing President evah
President Barack Obama’s approval ratings during his second year in office were the most partisan and polarized they’ve ever been at two years into a presidency, with a nearly 70 percentage point gap between how Republicans and Democrats evaluated his performance.

Obama’s approval among Republicans averaged just 13 percent, while Democrats’ approval of Obama’s second year averaged 81 percent.

Labor-State Weighs Modernization

Chronic joblessness forces another look at union-only labor laws
One of the Ohio Senate's priority bills would eliminate collective bargaining for state workers. These are the same workers who also are expected to be hit in a separate measure to make their public-pension funds solvent.

And now some lawmakers want to take a serious look at whether Ohio should become the nation's 23rd "right-to-work"state, essentially allowing workers to refuse to join a workplace union.

Ohioans rejected right-to-work in a statewide vote in 1958. The idea has been brought up occasionally since, though generally by a handful of lawmakers on the GOP's right flank.

But previously unscathed labor laws are moving to the discussion table, thanks to a new batch of conservative lawmakers, big GOP legislative majorities and a growing urgency to create jobs after a decade of economic decline.

Organizing Hypocrisy

Card-check good for thee but not for me

On Tuesday, a union filed a petition [5-RC-16629] with the National Labor Relations Board office in Baltimore, Maryland. The purpose of the petition was to have the NLRB conduct a secret-ballot election. The employer in this case happens to be the United Food & Commercial Workers, Local 400, based in Landover, Maryland. The petitioning union is the Federation of Agents and International Representatives. [Yes, sometimes union representatives actually have unions represent them against their exploitive employersthe unions.]

So, you might be asking, what’s the point?

Well, apparently the employer (the United Food & Commercial Workers) has not agreed to card check, despite being a huge supporter of card check.

Another example of another hypocritical union? It sure appears so.
