Ruling Class Waives Out of ObamaCare

What about the rest of us?
Three SEIU locals have received waivers from ObamaCare, CNS News reports (we originally reported that SEIU Local 25 and SEIU Local 1199 were receiving recipients in December). The waivers are coming to the thug-union that had been most supportive of Obama in 2008, and proudly supported the passage of ObamaCare.

According to CNS News:

The three SEIU chapters include the Local 25 in Obama’s hometown of Chicago.

The waivers allow health insurance plans to limit how much they will spend on a policy holder’s medical coverage for a given year. Under the new health care law, however, such annual limits are phased out by the year 2014. (Under HHS regulations, annual limits can be no less than $750,000 for 2011, no less than $1.25 million in 2012 and no less than $2 million in 2013.)

The SEIU, with more than 2 million members nationally, includes health care workers, janitors, security guards, and state and local government workers.

The three SEIU locals, covering a total of 36,064 enrollees, are covered by the federal waivers, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

HHS gave a waiver to Local 25 SEIU in Chicago with 31,000 enrollees on Oct. 1, 2010; to Local 1199 SEIU Greater New York Benefit Fund with 4,544 enrollees on Oct. 10, 2010; and to the SEIU Local 1 Cleveland Welfare Fund with 520 enrollees on Nov. 15, 2010.

In 2010, the SEIU was one of the biggest spenders of the election cycle– spending $44 million. That $44 million was spent on Democrats that had stood with Obama on ObamaCare.

Why would they want out of the utopian health care system that they so proudly supported? Are the rest of us non-SEIU folks lesser humans?

O-Progs Driving U.S. Downward

Just wait until ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank kick in
We’re No. 9!

America has slipped one spot since last year — from Earth’s eighth-freest economy in 2010, according to the 2011 Index of Economic Freedom. This 17th annual report, jointly published by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal, sifts through the wreckage caused by government’s turbocharged acceleration during the Bush-Obama years. America’s slump in the rankings (we’re down from No. 5 in 2008) confirms the urgent need for Washington to revitalize free markets and restrain government intervention.

Among the 179 countries examined in the Index, Hong Kong is ranked first, followed by Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Canada, Ireland, and Denmark. These nations all outscored the U.S. across ten categories, including taxes, free trade, regulation, monetary policy, and corruption.

America barely made the top ten. Bahrain was tenth, with 77.7 points, one decimal point behind America’s 77.8 score. Chile reached No. 11 with 77.4, just 0.4 points behind the United States.

Even worse, with a score below 80, the U.S. is spending its second year as a “mostly free” economy. As it departed the family of “free” nations in 2010, it led the “mostly free” category. Even within this less-than-illustrious group, America now lags behind Ireland and Denmark.

How did our once-unassailable country wind up so winded?

“The national government’s role in the economy has expanded sharply in the past two years, and the federal budget deficit is extremely large, with gross public debt approaching 100 percent of GDP,” explain the Index’s authors, Terry Miller and Kim R. Holmes. “Interventionist responses to the economic slowdown have eroded economic freedom and long-term competitiveness. Drastic legislative changes in health care and financial regulations have retarded job creation and injected substantial uncertainty into business investment planning.”

Limbaugh: How Progs Think

Is Mussolini-style Fascism really the political center?
Only a progressive thinks in such terms -- that the way to increase a competitive business climate is through a government-business partnership, as if business can't blow its own nose without the superior wisdom of socialist bureaucrats.

If Obama intended to change course, would he be signaling his intention to call for new domestic spending on education and infrastructure under cover of the euphemism "investment"? Even his virtual admission that he deceived the people with his promise of shovel-ready jobs hasn't led to a change in policy. Just more of the same -- with different packaging.

Obama may throw business a few bones, e.g., reducing the corporate income tax rate, but until he abandons his class warfare against producers and wealth, declares a cease-fire in his war against domestic energy production, complies with the people's will not to have socialized health care, gets serious about entitlement reform, shows the slightest inkling toward meaningful spending reductions, and commits to revamping the nation's smothering tax system, for starters, we'll know that any apparent shuffling to the center is designed only to disarm the conservative opposition so that he can continue on the same leftist path.

BigGov-BigLabor Thugs ♥ PLAs

Fleecing of workers and taxpayers rivals Davis-Bacon racism
Lancaster County Commissioner Scott Martin wants to ban Project Labor Agreements for Construction Projects in the county. A project labor agreement or PLA requires all contractors, whether they are unionized or not, to subject themselves and their employees to unionization in order to work on a government-funded construction project. This is done by including a union collective bargaining agreement in a public construction project's bid specifications. In order to receive a contract, a contractor must sign the agreement and subject its employees to union control.

"As I see Project Labor Agreements starting to be utilized in other areas of the Commonwealth, I believe it is important that this action be taken to preserve fair and open contracting for government projects, ensure that we attain the most competitive costs for taxpayers and to offer a process that doesn't exclude 85% of the workforce from competing for government projects," stated Commissioner Martin, Chairman, Lancaster County Board of Commissioners.

Obama's Crystal-Clear Strategy

Typical Marxist attacks on America carry threat of violence
The Bible of the left, “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky, encourages liberals to never let a crisis go to waste and to use it to further political advantage. The recent shooting in Arizona is the latest example of their dedication to Rahm Emanuel's dictum. Consequently, rather than giving the country the time to mourn tragedy, they immediately tried to use it to advance their political agenda.

They attacked Sarah Palin showing the pictures of the map with crosshairs. They failed, however, to show instances when Democrats did the same thing. They took aim at her “lock and load” metaphor, suggesting it was incendiary language like that incited violence, forgetting to mention that President Obama used similar imagery, “If they (Republicans) bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”

Let's be frank. The left would like to see the country inflamed in class warfare. Saul Alinsky has taught them well that they need chaos to give them the excuse to bring down the hammer: better protection, fewer liberties, more government.
