Individual liberty anywhere is a threat to the Progressive-Collectivist Cause everywhere.
Republican state lawmakers soon might introduce legislation that would ban local governments from negotiating collective bargaining agreements, a move that would effectively neutralize the unions that represent South Dakota's teachers and other public-sector employees.(from argusleader.com)If such legislation would pass, union officials no longer would be able to negotiate contracts on behalf of their members. Republicans say they are considering the measure because unions in other parts of the country have driven up pension costs and created unsustainable salaries. GOP leaders say they don't want that to happen in South Dakota.
"I just think from a taxpayer perspective, it's a beneficial thing to at least put on the table for discussion," Sen. Tim Rave, R-Baltic, said. He is among a group of Senate Republicans who are considering sponsoring the legislation.
The proposal would face fierce resistance, not only from public-sector unions, but from unions operating in the private sector."We would be extremely disappointed in a law like that because it would relegate our public employees to second-class citizens," said Paul Aylward, the executive director of Council 59 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
In a letter Thursday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine announced that he had selected Patrick Gaspard to serve as the political party’s new executive director.(from dailycaller.com via sadhillnews.com)
The selection is certain to draw criticism from conservatives because of Gaspard’s past association with activist organization ACORN.
Gaspard donated thousands of dollars to ACORN, The American Spectator has reported, and worked for New York’s Working Families Party and labor union SEIU.
I honestly and truly believe this solves the entire mystery.(from atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com)
It is seriously this straightforward.
* Obama was indeed born in Hawaii in 1961
* Obama was indeed adopted by Lolo Soetoro in the 1970s
* Obama’s name was indeed changed to Barry Soetoro in the 1970s
* Obama’s birth certificate was altered per Hawaiian law to reflect his new name in the 1970s
* Obama never changed his name back to “Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.” — most likely because he used “Barry Soetoro” on all of his student aid applications for college, and probably received foreign student grants and admissions assistance playing off his years living in Indonesia
* All the records, transcripts, documents, and paperwork Obama continues to hide from the public is all hidden because it lists his name as “Barry Soetoro” on all of it.
* Obama will not allow his birth certificate to be released because it lists the “wrong” name on it: Barry Soetoro
It is as simple as this, folks.
Local and national hedge fund managers and movie industry moguls helped mayoral hopeful Rahm Emanuel collect more than $10 million in a mere three months for his mayoral run.(from suntimes.com)
Twenty-four supporters gave $100,000 or more to the campaign before new limits on contributions kicked in Jan. 1. Now individuals can give only $5,000 each per election cycle, so director Steven Spielberg would not be able to give the $75,000 he donated last year.
Emanuel’s rivals for the mayor’s seat find those big-dollar contributions — especially the out-of-town ones — worrisome.
“This ... is an obscene amount of money,” said City Clerk Miguel del Valle. “This is Chicago. We should not be picking a mayor of the city of Chicago based on what Hollywood star or what Hollywood tycoon is able to provide ... funding for the mayoral candidate.”
