Public still favors worker-choice

But Obama envisions vast network of forced-labor tribute
The editorial ran on Labor Day, Sept. 1, 1941 — a fact that Ruggles later chalked up to coincidence.

The right-to-work editorial wasn’t anti-union per se. Its proposed amendment also guaranteed the right to join unions without fear of reprisal or hiring discrimination.

The editorial said in part:

“Now this country may wish to become a vast network of union labor. If so, it is within the rights of a democracy to so decide. But the greatest crisis that confronts the nation today is the domestic issue of the right to work as a member of a labor union, if the individual wishes, or without membership in a union if he so elects.”
