The U.S. Government is ‘now serving’ 1 in 6 Americans with financial aid, while planning for a major expansion in benefits.(from sadhillnews.com)“More than 50 million Americans are on Medicaid, the federal-state program aimed principally at the poor. That’s up at least 17% since the recession began in December 2007,” USA Today reports. “More than 40 million people get food stamps, an increase of nearly 50% during the economic downturn according to government data through May.”Despite voracious growth over a 3-year period, the taxpayer funded safety-net programs will receive an additional 16+ million people by 2014 under the new health care law. And we know how ‘those’ estimates usually turn out.
The good news is, we’re getting fantastic mileage out our ‘Obama food stamp’ image.“Caseloads have risen as more people become eligible. The economic stimulus law signed by President Obama last year also boosted benefits.”
