(from bostonherald.com)In the wake of Gov. Deval Patrick avoiding a union convention due to police protesters, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO president says labor support for a Democrat is no longer guaranteed.
“This governor took away collective bargaining from police officers, teachers, steelworkers and Teamsters,” said Robert Haynes, whose 400,000-member union supported Scott Brown against Martha Coakley in the U.S. Senate race. “There’s a great deal of anger directed his way by working people.”
On Thursday, police officers picketed the AFL-CIO’s state of the union conference where Patrick was scheduled to speak. But the governor withdrew in the 11th hour after learning about the protest.
