ACORN, SIEU tied at wrists, ankles ... While everyone in Washington is suddenly pretending they’ve hardly ever heard of ACORN, they might want to pretend they’ve never heard of the SEIU, one of the nation’s largest unions. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now and the Service Employees International Union are tight as Heidi Klum and a new pair of jeans. You don’t think about one without the other. You also don’t talk about either organization without mention of Wade Rathke, co-founder of ACORN and founder of SEIU Local 100 in New Orleans. Rathke, who resigned from ACORN last year as “chief organizer” after it became known that his brother embezzled almost $1 million from the association, continues to run Local 100, as well as ACORN International, recently renamed Community Organizations International. Union-backed, tax-funded fraud group gets time out ... The most interesting part is that the Democrats threw ACORN under the bus again after two weeks of horrendous publicity, and without too much specific pushing on this bill for that action from the GOP. There is no chance that Republicans can stop the continuing resolution, nor do they necessarily want to do so, which means this will become law, at least for a while. ACORN makes SEIU radioactive ... When a major union endorsed Democrat Alexi Giannoulias in his bid for U.S. Senate this week, Republicans were quick to point out the union's strong ties to disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. In an alert sent to media outlets, GOP officials outlined how the powerful 170,000-member Illinois chapter of the Service Employees International Union was one of Blagojevich's biggest campaign donors and played a role in the events leading up to Blagojevich's arrest on corruption charges. UAW barks, Obama comes a-runnin' ... A sense of seemliness should prevent President Barack Obama from again exhorting the G-20, as he did April 2 in London, to be strong in resisting domestic pressures for protectionism. This month, invertebrate as he invariably is when organized labor barks, he imposed 35 percent tariffs on imports of tires that China makes for the low-price end of the market. This antic nonsense matters not only because of trade disruptions it may cause, but also because it is evidence of his willowy weakness under pressure from his political patrons. None of the 10 manufacturers who make up the domestic tire industry sought this protectionism. Seven of the 10 also make tires in other countries. The president smote China because a single union, the United Steelworkers, asked him to. It represents rubber workers, but only those responsible for 47 percent of U.S. tiremaking. Obama-MSM P2P scored ... Members of Congress have recently suggested that the federal government should undertake a billion dollar newspaper bailout. President Obama seems interested. Really? Why? Because the other bailouts worked out so well? Congressional investigators have disclosed their doubts that AIG will ever be able to payback it’s government loans. At the same time, economists suggest that at least $20 billion of the government loans to U.S. automakers are lost forever. GM and Chrysler now constitute a $100 billion welfare program, that just happens to sell cars (that no one wants). Meanwhile the economy continues to flounder despite the $800 billion economic stimulus package (a bailout to more fat cat corporations and Obama contributors). This disaster just keeps on growing (because government is involved). Now we’re discussing billion dollar government loans to newspapers? Who suggested that idea? Let me guess- perhaps newspaper publishers whispered in the ears of Democratic Senators and Congressmen who have accepted their contributions and editorial endorsements over the years. And what did they promise in return for a bailout? More contributions? More endorsements? Did they promise favorable news coverage of the pet programs of Obama and the Democratic Congress? Perhaps they promised negative news coverage (or complete blackouts) of the massive Tea Party rallies and protests gathering steam across America. Isn’t that called “pay for play?” (jaxobserver.com)

Will you vote to unionize the company or not?” “I’m an employee there, a private citizen, and it’s none of your business how I vote.” “Actually, it is precisely my business and thou shalt tell me how you vote, or thou shalt face the consequences.” Voter intimidation has been a problem for as long as there have been ballot boxes. The above scenario would be patently absurd were President Obama not working right now with labor unions and the Democrats in the Legislature to make open and public ballots during the unionization process a federal law. ACORN burned bridges in Fresno ... The community-organizing group ACORN already had rubbed some in Fresno the wrong way. Now a national scandal over the group has some city officials vowing to never work with the nonprofit again. Critics say the latest scandal is just another indication that the group goes too far to accomplish its goals. "The issues that ACORN raises are very legitimate," said City Council Member Henry T. Perea. "It is the tactics I disagree with -- they're aggressive, too aggressive. They're more interested in being controversial." (fresnobee.com)
Shame on H8ful NBC ... Well, this has the potential to get interesting. Apparently, Americans for Limited Government sent out a fairly run-of-the-mill media alert calling for the defunding of ACORN. One of the recipients of the media alert was one Jane Stone, a producer at NBC’s Dateline. The sender of the e-mail was ALG’s Alex Rosenwald, although he was sending the e-mail on behalf of ALG’s president, Bill Wilson. At any rate, Ms. Stone received the e-mail on her Blackberry and was not too favorably inclined toward it, prompting her – according to ALG – to send Rosenwald the following reply: “Bite me Jew boy!” So! Guess she told him. It appears that yet another member of the mainstream media has forgotten they no longer have a monopoly on information distribution vehicles. ALG printed out the e-mail, scanned it and posted the JPEG on their site. And they didn’t stop there. Carter Clews, director of communications for ALG, contacted NBC news boss Steve Capus and spoke directly with him for 15 minutes. At first, Capus denied that Stone had sent an e-mail at all, but then changed his story to say, OK, yes she had sent an e-mail, but it didn’t say “Bite me Jew boy.” (northstarnational.com)

President Obama has proved by his own statements he has ties to ACORN and he denies it. When you look at what's important in national news you cover, it is pathetic. Why Harry Reid's Dems heart ACORN ... The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported September 25 that Democratic Majority Leader of the Senate Harry Reid (D-NV) is blocking a Senate probe of ACORN. The Review-Journal says, "It didn't start with those undercover videos made by a couple of independent filmmakers posing as a prostitute and her pimp, visiting various ACORN offices around the country and getting helpful advice on how to hide their income and 'qualify' for a tax-subsidized mortgage to set up a house of ill repute, declaring three of their dozen (albeit imaginary) underage illegal immigrant prostitutes as 'dependents.' That was just a final shoe dropping loudly enough that the problem could no longer be ignored." Yet it is being ignored, at least by the Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate. The Review-Journal continues: "Here in Clark County, Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said last year he saw 'rampant fraud in the 2,000 to 3,000 registrations ACORN turns in every week,' with some 48 percent of those forms being 'clearly fraudulent.' Why Barack hearts Hugo ... The administration seems to be oblivious to how democracy can be challenged from within by ideologues who use the freedoms guaranteed by democratic institutions to subvert it, as is happening in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua. The United States should be helping those countries preserve the independence of institutions that keep elected presidents from becoming dictators. In Venezuela, Mr. Chávez is guided by Cuba's example as he attacks the press and systematically destroys the checks and balances of democratic institutions. Is this what we want to see happen in Honduras? Of course not! Let's not forget Mr. Chávez's relationship with Iran. The Venezuelan president has signed economic and energy agreements totaling roughly $17 billion with the tarnished Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He also hosts and provides villas for representatives from the Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists groups, both of which are supported by Iran. Mr. Chávez also has established a strong military relationship with Russia and has embarked on a huge purchase ($15 billion to $17 billion) of military equipment, including tanks and Sukhoi jet fighters. None of this type of equipment will be of much use in the jungle, but it will help Mr. Chávez maintain control of the Venezuelan masses. (washingtontimes.com)
Trotskyite Lula triggers LatAm violence, fear ... Honduras’s acting government gave Brazil 10 days to declare whether ousted president Manuel Zelaya has been granted asylum and demanded he stop using the embassy in Tegucigalpa to “instigate violence.” Honduras “will be obligated to take additional measures within international law” if Brazil doesn’t meet the deadline, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, without elaborating. Obama-backed leftwing thug running out of time ... De facto leaders in Honduras on Saturday asked Brazil's government to immediately stop offering protection to ousted leader Manuel Zelaya to "instigate violence in Honduras". "We're asking Brazil's government that Mr Zelaya immediately stop using the protection that Brazil's diplomatic mission gives him to instigate violence in Honduras," said a statement read out on national television. Zelaya, who has been holed up in the Brazilian embassy since he made a surprise return almost a week ago, shortly beforehand called on his supporters to gather in the capital for a peaceful "final offensive" on Monday.
