Barack dismisses secret-ballot elections

Union bigs: 'There's no need to subject the workers to an election.'

A cornerstone of our democracy is the secret ballot. Without it, it is impossible to eliminate intimidation from the process of determining the will of a group of people.

In bills presently in Congress known as the Employee Free Choice Act, Sens. Schumer and Clinton and Rep. Hinchey have all voted to eliminate the secret ballot. Even former democratic presidential candidate George McGovern opposes these bills. They are designed, in part, to introduce intimidation into union organizing.

I expect the Democrats to pay their debts to their special interests, but elimination of the secret ballot is wrong! Barack Obama has stated he will sign this bill if elected. Obama promises change, but this is one very bad change that should be opposed by all who believe in the democratic process.
